Nkuku was founded on the back of a life-changing adventure. Ali and Alex Cooke set off on a year-long round the world trip. From the outset they were inspired and humbled by the talented craftspeople and their beautiful work, that they met on the journey.
It then encouraged them to do something different, so on their return, they moved out of London to rural Devon and started working with artisans throughout the world, supporting and celebrating their skills by bringing their products to a wider audience.
They borrowed the name Nkuku (‘Nu-kuh -kuh’), from a village in Zambia, and wrote their business plan on the cover of a paperback. Their first product was for the stylish journals that they still sell today.
